Frequently Asked Questions

At Coco Dental, we understand that when it comes to finding a dentist near Farmer’s Branch, you want to take your time. Doing ample research and reviewing all your options is important, which is why we want to help you in your search. We welcome calls from all current and potential patients, but if you’re not quite ready to pick up the phone, we invite you to review the following questions and answers. If you do not see yours listed below, please contact our office.

How do I find the best place to get dental work done?

First, you need to identify what it is you’re looking for in a dental practice. Some of the questions you can ask yourself include:

  • Do I prefer a dentist who is located near my home or office?
  • Do I want to see someone who is in-network with my dental insurance?
  • Should I opt for a specialist?
  • Do they offer comprehensive dental care?
  • Will they take care of my family?

It’s also helpful to review the website, take a tour, and get to know the dentist and staff to get a feel as to how warm and welcoming they appear. Does the office feel cold and uninviting? Are there amenities for patients? Do they provide one-on-one treatment to all patients?

Once you’ve established what you want in a dental practice, you can begin to narrow your options. Finding a dentist near Farmer’s Branch that meets your criteria will save you a lot of time and potential oral health issues in the future.

How do I get emergency dental care?

As soon as you notice a serious injury to your mouth, you must first call an emergency dentist near Farmer’s Branch to receive immediate assistance. However, if the situation is life-threatening, make sure to call 911 immediately. While you may be tempted to rush to the ER or a quick care clinic, they are often not equipped to handle many of the most common dental emergencies (i.e., toothaches, chipped teeth, knocked-out teeth, etc.). This is why it is best to seek the help of a licensed dentist who can provide thorough treatment.

When contacting our dental office, you can expect us to schedule a visit for you as soon as possible. We offer convenient times as well as Saturday appointments should an emergency occur outside of the normal workweek.

Remember, if you are experiencing a dental emergency, it is likely there is a larger dental issue that requires dental help. If you’re out of the habit of seeing a dentist for six-month checkups and cleanings, it’s important that you get back into the habit to avoid future emergencies.

How much does a dental checkup and cleaning cost near Farmer’s Branch?

Ultimately, the cost will depend on where your dental practice is located as well as other unique factors, such as the health of your smile. During the initial visit, a dental checkup and cleaning will begin by going over your medical history and any current medications you’re taking. You’ll also discuss any concerns with your dentist about your oral health.

A thorough checkup by the dentist as well as a professional cleaning, dental X-rays, and an oral cancer screening are also included.

If you have dental insurance, you will likely want to file your visit because of the immense savings you can expect (between 80-100% covered by insurance). However, if you’re uninsured, the average rate for these visits throughout the United States ranges from $200-$350.

What do you do if you can’t afford a dentist?

Being able to afford the dentist is a major concern for many patients. Because dental care is often costly, you may find it “necessary” to put off any regular or elective procedures until you and your family can better afford these types of treatment. However, this often leads to serious problems that only result in more time and money being spent at the dentist’s office.

At Coco Dental, we are pleased to partner with CareCredit, which is a third-party financing company. You can worry less about paying the full amount for treatment upfront and instead, enroll in a low- or zero-interest plan that makes it easy to break up the cost of your dental care into manageable payments each month.

This is an ideal option for individuals who are uninsured or preparing for lengthy, extensive dental treatments. However, if you have dental insurance, it is in your best interest to use it. We are in-network with many PPO insurance plans, which can help you save big when it comes to taking better care of your smile.

What level of education is required to be a dentist?

Dentists practicing in the United States must complete their bachelor’s degrees before enrolling in an accredited dental school. There, the average timeframe is three years, and they must attain a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).

Once they graduate, they can choose to begin pursuing general dentistry or become specialized in one of the 12 fields acknowledged by the ADA (i.e., pediatric dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, etc.).

Also, to maintain licensure in the U.S., dentists must complete a designated number of continuing education hours each year.
